Registration for 2026-2027 Religious Education is now open!
Before submitting your registration, please read the following information for important deadlines, Sacramental requirements, and fee changes for the upcoming year.
Important Dates
- Meeting days: Sundays from 9:45-10:45am in the parish hall
- First day of CCD class: Sunday, September 13, 2026
- Students in their second year of First Holy Communion are required to attend monthly evening Sacramental Prep Classes on the 2nd Tuesdays of the month at 5:45-7:00pm starting September 8, 2026 in addition to Sunday CCD classes
- Last day of class: May 16, 2027
- Early registration ends on May 31, 2026 (prices will increase after this date)
- Registration deadline for First Communion and Confirmation students: September 13, 2026 (no exceptions!)
  Note: Confirmation classes are for students under 18 years of age. Students 18 years and older will be referred to OCIA for Sacraments. Confirmation candidates must be 15 years old by the time they receive Confirmation.
Requirements for First Holy Communion
To receive First Holy Communion, children must:
- Be at least 7 years old or in 2nd grade
- Complete two years of religious education classes (including weekly Sunday classes for both years and monthly classes during the Sacramental year), unless:
  - Child has attended Catholic school the previous and current year, and shows readiness by passing an interview/test
  - Child has been homeschooled the previous and current year, and shows readiness by passing an interview/test
- Present proof of baptism
- Attend First Communion rehearsal
Requirements for Confirmation Year 1
- Student must be 15 years old prior to May 31, 2028 and demonstrate readiness
2026-2027 Catechesis of the Good Shepherd - Atrium
Enrollment for Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) is on a first-come, first-served basis and limited to 10 children per class. Once we reach max capacity, you will be added to the waitlist. PLEASE DO NOT PAY FOR CGS UNTIL YOUR ENROLLMENT HAS BEEN CONFIRMED BY THE OFFICE. We are unable to provide refunds.

Please note: CGS classes are supplemental and do not fulfill the CCD requirement for First Holy Communion. To learn more about CGS, visit the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd website.
2026-2027 Early Registration Fees (Prices will increase by $10 after May 31):
- $70 per child: Faith Formation, CGS 1 and 2, and 1st year of Sacramental Prep.
- $115 per child: 2nd year First Holy Communion students (Includes Sacramental Prep classes, student photo, and class picture of First Holy Communion)
- $115 per child: Confirmation 1 (Includes day retreat)
- $340 per child: Confirmation 2 (Includes diocesan-required overnight weekend retreat, student photo, and class picture of Confirmation)
- A $25 late fee per family applies after August 23, 2026
- Refunds cannot be given but credits can be applied to future classes

- CLASS and MASS Attendance:
  Students who are preparing for First Communion or Confirmation are required to attend religious education for two years in order to prepare for the Sacrament they will be receiving. Confirmation students are also required to attend a retreat each year of the program. More important than any other requirement is to attend Mass regularly, as it is one of the Five Precepts of the Church.

- RELIGIOUS EDUCATION DISCIPLINE GUIDELINES
  
  Please go over the following guidelines with your child. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact Geneane Ballard, Religious Education Coordinator, at 760-941-5560.
  1. Class Rules
  Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself. No teasing or swearing.
  Electronic devices must be turned off and put away and may be used with instructor/Religious Education Coordinator permission only.
  Follow directions and participate in class.
  Possession and/or use of illegal substances will not be tolerated and will result in a call to the student's parent/guardian for immediate pickup.
  2. Consequences for Broken Rules
  First consequence: Warning from teacher
  Second consequence: Meeting with teacher and/or Religious Education Coordinator
  Third consequence: If the problem persists, a conference with the parents will be called, and if no solution can be found, then suspension from the program will be warranted.
  The consequences listed above are cumulative throughout the course of the year.
  It is absolutely forbidden for any disciplinary measure to involve personal indignities, humiliation, indiscriminate punishment, sending students outside the classroom without adult supervision, or corporal punishment of any kind.

- PHOTO/VIDEO RELEASE
  This letter authorizes St. Margaret Catholic Parish of the Catholic Diocese of San Diego, its representatives, or volunteers, to photograph or record on audio and/or video (tape, digital, or online meeting platforms) my child, during Religious Education between September 2026 and June 2027. Photos, audio, or video may be used in printed materials and any other visual display or media.
  I understand that such photos and/or video recordings will be used for Religious Education related purposes and will not be used for any commercial purpose whatsoever. I therefore hereby waive any kind and all rights I may have for remuneration of any kind that could otherwise accrue for the uses of such photos and/or audio or video recordings.

- ST. MARGARET CONFIRMATION SERVICE REQUIREMENT (CONFIRMATION ONLY)
  The St. Margaret Confirmation program is centered around the gifts of the Holy Spirit. We therefore stress the importance of each student using his/her gifts to build the Kingdom of God. Students are required to complete 15 hours of service each catechetical year as part of the Confirmation program. All service needs to be completed through the parish (e.g. altar serving, lectoring, sacristan, helping with coffee and donuts, etc). Youth involvement in the Sunday Mass, especially in leadership roles, is the clearest indicator that our programs are bearing fruit. If a student is on the Parish Ministry Schedule, he/she has thereby completed their service requirement and does not need to keep track of these hours. Only students who are on the Parish Ministry Schedule will be considered for the Service Awards given at the end of the year.

  Confirmation and religious education is not merely an academic endeavor, it is an education of the whole person. Therefore, it is important for students to develop friendships of virtue and be involved in the life of the parish with each other.

  Baptismal certificates are required to complete registration for all students. Please submit a copy of your child's baptism certificate to [email protected] or at the office.

- Financial Aid: No active parishioner of St. Margaret's will be turned away because of financial hardship. Please indicate the amount you can contribute toward registration and explain hardship below. Our office will contact you.
